Charla: A small step for iCub / Charlista: Marie Charbonneau.

Abstract:

The iCub is an open source humanoid robot child developed at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia.
It was designed to support research in embodied artificial intelligence, and has been adopted by about 30 laboratories worldwide.

It can show simple facial expressions, recognize and grasp objects, shoot with a bow and arrow, and even perform tai chi motions. However, un til recently, the robot still had to be seen walking. For this purpose, a balancing controller was developed using force control, allowing safe interaction with the robot. This talk will present in exclusivity the latest results achieved with the iCub.

Short bio:

Marie Charbonneau received a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sherbrooke (Canada) in 2010,leading her to begin her career as a mechanical design and simulation consultant. In 2011, she was introduced to robotics through mentoring for the FIRST Robotics Challenge.

This experience enouraged her to undertake master studies in Robotics Engineering through the Erasmus Mundus EMARO program, carried out as a joint degree between the University of Genoa, Warsaw University of Technology and ETH Zürich. She has been working as an early stage researcher at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia in Genoa since 2015.
