Charla: "Smart Grid Security - Challenges for the Electricity Grid of the Future" / Charlista: Marius Stübs
"The electricity grid is rapidly changing. Decentralization, digitization inter-connectivity are challenging the traditional approaches of IT security, since it's becoming a valuable target for hacking. When millions of intelligent energy devices join the grid, the future Smart Grid is required to establish trust, by authorizing or rejecting these new devices in real-time to its "Internet of Energy". It is inevitable, that some of these devices might act maliciously despite all caution. Security concepts must utilize distributed measurements and topology-awareness, to implement coordinated counter-measures and participant reputation systems. It's necessary to acknowledge these new challenges for security management in critical infrastructures due to the recent advances in inter-connectivity of systems.
Marius Stübsis a researcher and PhD student in the Security in Distributed Systems (SVS) research group at University of Hamburg, writing his doctoral theses on security management of renewable energy systems. This comprises the topics of resilience of distributed control algorithms, privacy-preserving identity management and distributed trust. He graduated in Computer Science at the University of Hamburg with a diploma thesis on DNSSEC.
